Home Remedies for Bags under Eyes

Bags under the eyes usually occur during sleep when the fluids build up and cause the puffy look that many people have first thing in the morning. For some people, that puffy look doesn’t go away during the day and the fluid remains in the eyelids. There are some home remedies for bags under eyes that you can use that will reduce the appearance of puffiness and help you look more refreshed.

Tea Bags

A common home remedy for puffy eyes or bags under the eyes is tea. You can use tea bags that have been steeped in hot water for about four or five minutes. Cool the tea bags so that you don’t burn your eyes and place one over each eye. Cover your eyes with a cloth and lay back and relax. This can also be a very refreshing experience in the hot weather if you put the tea bags in the freezer for a few minutes.

Cucumbers

Cucumbers are another great home remedy for bags under eyes. The cucumbers cause the blood vessels in your eyes to constrict and eliminate the puffiness in your eyes. This is probably one of the most popular home remedies for bags under eyes.

Spoons

Cold spoons are another common trick to eliminate the puffiness under your eyes. Just place a few teaspoons in the refrigerator and chill them. Place a single teaspoon over each eye and as the spoons become warm from your face, replace them with a cold one. This will reduce the bags under your eyes very quickly.

Egg Whites

Egg whites have been known to reduce under eye bags as well. Just beat one egg white and apply it all around your eyes. Relax with the egg mixture on your eyes for about ten minutes and wash off with water. Use a washcloth to get off any egg white that you may have missed and you will see a dramatic reduction in your puffy eyes.

Prevention

You may also want to check your pillows to be sure that your head is getting the proper elevation while you are sleeping. It is a simple way to keep you from getting the bags under your eyes in the first place.

Get a good night’s sleep every night and make sure that you are eating a well balanced and healthy diet. Avoid drinking too much alcohol or stress to reduce the amount of under eye bags that you have. There are almost as many home remedies to prevent under eye bags as there are home remedies to eliminate under eye bags. Smoking, stress, alcohol and lack of sleep are a few of the things that can cause you to get bags under your eyes.
