Warts are not usually painful, but they aren’t at all attractive and they can be a nuisance. Because they’re caused by a virus, you will often get them in clusters, or they may spread if you pick at one, thus spreading the virus. Always wash your hands after touching a wart and try to keep it dry at all times, as the virus that causes warts thrives in a moist environment.
There are several home remedies for wart removal that are much less expensive then having them surgically removed or burned off, but some of them take several weeks to work, so be persistent.
One of the most popular – and surprising – wart removal treatments is duct tape. Simply cover the wart or warts with duct tape and leave in place for a week at a time, then peel off and gently file at the wart with an emery board or pumice stone to slough off the dead skin. If the wart doesn’t completely fall away, put a new piece of duct tape on for another week and repeat the process.
A traditional treatment for wart removal is to simply rub the inside of a raw potato over the wart, coating it in the raw juice, several times a day. Let the juice dry on the wart, following this procedure for at least two weeks, at which point the wart should fall off.
Garlic, that wonderful plant that is good for so many home remedies, is also good for getting rid of warts. Coat the area around the wart first with a few drops of olive oil or some vitamin E, then apply mashed, raw garlic and cover with a bandage. Don’t touch it for twenty-four hours, then remove the covering. A blister will probably have formed by this time; don’t pop the blister. After about a week, the blister and the wart should fall off.
Apple cider vinegar is another wonderful home remedy for wart removal. Because it’s highly acidic, you’ll want to coat the skin around the wart with some olive oil or Vaseline for protection. Next, soak a small piece of cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and apply directly to the wart, covering it with some medical tape to keep it in place. Do this every night, leaving it on overnight and removing it in the morning, for about two weeks, to completely remove the wart.
Castor oil on a bandage is a simple home remedy for wart removal that works by depriving the wart of oxygen, basically smothering it to death. Put on a fresh bandage soaked in Castor oil three times a day, including one before going to bed, for optimal results.
The final home remedy for wart removal also works well, and is nice because you don’t have to wear a bandage or tape over the wart during the day. Soak several lemon slices in apple cider vinegar with a pinch of salt for two weeks in the refrigerator. After the two weeks is up, rub the lemon slices on the wart two or three times daily. Within one to two weeks, the wart will be gone.
Remember to never pick at, cut or damage a wart. This can lead to an infection or the spreading of the virus, which can lead to more problems. And remember, others probably don’t notice your warts like you do!
